When to Harvest Garlic (& How to Receive Fruition's Garlic as a Gift!)
and join us for Shakespeare's The Tempest on the farm this Saturday 💛
As we prepare to gift garlic as well as share Shakespeare’s The Tempest on the farm this Saturday…
Can you feel?
The last six thousand years?
Of our ancestors?
Planting garlic, harvesting garlic, savoring garlic…
…singing praises of garlic?
Each bulb, every seed and each of us are a living, breathing embodiment of everything that’s every been and everything that will ever be:
What a fine way to
nourish the world we dream of
as we pause, chop garlic and breathe deeply
knowing growing food
and feeding each other
is a political act of love
honoring the untold generations
whose hope is embodied in each seed
that against all odds
they are here
in our hands.
And Friends, if you’re wondering when to harvest your garlic, you’re not alone: our last 200+ generations of ancestors have co-adapted with garlic, many of them wondering when the ‘perfect moment’ may be to harvest. Let's demystify the moment:
And Friends, join us for
Garlic Harvest
Garlic Gifting
& Shakespeare’s
The Tempest
this Saturday, July 19th!
How fitting to pair our garlic harvest & gifting with a timeless play exploring the nature of power, manipulation, colonialism and the nature of illusion?
Join us for any & all of the delicious festivities:
10 am: Garlic harvest & curing! Come hungry to learn as well as help. Bring a dairy-free offering for our potluck lunch around 1 with such luscious abundance from the farm.
3 pm: Garlic gifting! We’re honored to share garlic both as food and seed for generations yet to come. Receive only what you're able to cure at home. Arrive promptly and plan to stay for our full garlic gifting circle til 4.
4 pm: Farm tour!
4:30: Potluck! (bring a dairy-free dish to pass!)
6 pm: Music!
6:30 pm: The Tempest!
8 pm: Conversation with Director & Cast
We’ll gather in the green field beyond the garlic:
Bring:
~ a chair or blanket to sit on for the performance
~ a bag to bring garlic home in
~ friends & family to make delicious memories with
~ hunger for a more courageously playful and delectable world for all
~ reciprocity curiosity (more below…!)
And Friends, capitalism tells us all this is 'free' since we ask for zero market dollars, but let’s remember
just like black raspberries
ripening in the sun
we know these are gifts
nourishing our hunger to be nourishing
with sublime joy
as well as commitment
to growth, thorns &
common flourishing
Would you love to say
thank you?
And sustain this work and joy alongside us?
In the words of our beloved friend Adam Wilson, we dream of a world than sustains rather than pays us all…
…and in this spirit, we share Fruition’s relational, material & financial non-profit needs and if you’re able to joyfully share financial capacity with Shake on the Lake, thanks for bringing this form of care on Saturday, making their non-profit education mission possible for so many generations to come 💛
Also, if you’d love to help source & write grants to help bring such gifts to our wide community, don’t be shy!
What if giving was the new receiving?
What if we couldn’t tell the difference?
What if you trusted your presence in our lives was simply enough?
See you soon!
and at twilight the fireflies will join us:
Sow Seeds & Sing Songs,
and the Many Possibilities of Fruition
ps
What else can we sow now?
So(w) much!

Thank you to the many marvelous hearts & hands who have already joined us this season!

Poetry forever and rest in power, Andrea Gibson:
Petra, thank you for this beautiful example of sharing the important aspects of life, the US has seemingly forgotten. Your hospitality is stunning, in its wild acceptance and fuel for community experiences... I am inspired to read this , particularly in these times where the social contract has been broken from our Kennedy time dreams of peace, love, organic, nature.... vw
Dear Petra,
Thank you for your uplifting e-mails, and for sharing your knowledge about what to plant and when. I wish I drove or lived much closer. I'll keep reading, as long as you keep writing!
